Xbox Officially Reveals Mythic Achievements, Its Long-Awaited Platinum Trophy Rival

After leaking earlier this week, Xbox has officially unveiled Mythic Achievements, the company’s long-anticipated answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy system. Announced Wednesday through an Xbox Wire post, the feature is available to players enrolled in the Xbox Insider program starting today, marking a significant shift in how the Microsoft platform recognizes player accomplishments across its extensive game library.

The company described the new system as a way to “recognize some of the biggest accomplishments in your Xbox history.” Just as PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy is awarded for completing every other trophy in a title, Mythics will be earned once players complete all original achievements for a game. Importantly, any additional achievements added later through downloadable content or post-launch updates will not be counted toward the reward, nor will they retroactively strip a game of its Mythic status once earned.

A Refined Achievement Experience

Alongside the Mythic system, Xbox is rolling out a new Gaming tab on player profiles designed to serve as a centralized hub for tracking progress. This dedicated space lets players view their Gamerscore and browse achievements in one place, addressing long-standing requests for a more cohesive presentation of their gaming identity. Mythic achievements will be distinguished from the crowd with a distinctive heroic frame, giving top-tier accomplishments the visual prominence they deserve.

To ease the journey toward completion, each game’s achievement list will now include a progress bar that shows exactly how close a player is to earning everything the game requires. This small but meaningful addition removes much of the guesswork that has historically surrounded achievement hunting.

Which Games Will Qualify?

Xbox has not yet disclosed a specific list of titles participating in the feature’s initial rollout. The Xbox Wire post did note that players will automatically see Mythics appear on eligible titles, including legacy Xbox 360 games, suggesting the system may span multiple generations of hardware. Without details on the underlying mechanism, it remains unclear exactly which games will be included, though educated guesses are already circulating.

PlayStation first introduced Platinum Trophies in 2008, meaning countless titles from the PS3 era onward already carry the distinction. For multi-platform releases, Xbox could potentially reuse PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy data to identify eligible Mythic Achievements, sparing developers the effort of rebuilding achievement sets from scratch. Xbox exclusives, however, would require Mythics to be created anew.

A Complicated Moment for Xbox

The announcement arrives during a turbulent period for Microsoft’s gaming division. Just a week before the Mythic reveal, Xbox announced further layoffs and studio closures, including the shutdown of Ninja Theory, the Merseyside-based developer behind titles such as Bleed and, most notably, Hellblade. The restructuring has drawn criticism from portions of the community and coincides with Xbox remaining a priority target of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Despite these challenges, the introduction of Mythic Achievements represents a meaningful step toward parity with Sony’s long-established trophy system. For dedicated players who have spent countless hours chasing 100% completion, the feature offers a more rewarding and visually satisfying way to celebrate their dedication.

Looking Ahead

As the feature continues its rollout through the Xbox Insider program, players are expected to see Mythic Achievements appear on eligible titles over the coming weeks. Microsoft has yet to confirm a broader release date beyond the Insider preview, nor has it detailed the full scope of which games will ultimately qualify. As more information emerges regarding the underlying system and participating titles, Gamer24h will keep readers updated on the latest developments.
