Activision has officially confirmed that Shipment, one of the Call of Duty franchise’s most notorious and divisive multiplayer maps, is returning in this year’s Modern Warfare 4. The announcement arrived after fans spotted the tiny map in the newly released trailer for MW4’s PC version, prompting the official Call of Duty account to verify its comeback with a dedicated post. The map, which debuted in 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, is set to make its way back to the franchise after more than a decade away from the mainline series.
Shipment has long been a lightning rod among the community. Its cramped layout, packed with shipping containers that players can dash through, creates an environment where combat erupts almost instantly and players can be eliminated the moment they spawn. The result is a map that is simultaneously beloved and loathed, drawing sharp reactions from fans on both sides of the debate. Its return in 2026’s MW4 comes as little surprise to longtime players, as the map has appeared across numerous Modern Warfare titles over the years, including Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Mobile.
What We Know About the Return
While Activision has firmly confirmed that Shipment will return in Modern Warfare 4, the company stopped short of clarifying exactly how it will arrive. It remains unclear whether the map will be part of the 12 6v6 maps available at launch or if it will be introduced at a later date through a post-launch update. That ambiguity leaves players to speculate about when they can expect to experience the map’s signature chaos once again.
The confirmation follows a wave of other promising announcements from Activision regarding MW4’s multiplayer and quality-of-life improvements. Before the Shipment reveal, the publisher confirmed that the game will finally fix how double XP tokens work, addressing a long-standing complaint among the player base. Activision also promised that the dreaded “update requires restart” notice is being phased out, a change that should streamline the experience for players juggling multiple game installations.
Shipment is one of the most iconic—and most debated—maps in Call of Duty history. We’re thrilled to bring it back to Modern Warfare 4.

Additional features highlighted for MW4 include a Warzone update that lets players avoid seeing the game’s more outlandish cosmetic skins, as well as a brand-new, Counter-Strike-style mode that could attract fans of tactical, round-based shooters. Together, these additions signal Activision’s effort to refine the Modern Warfare experience while expanding its multiplayer offerings.
Looking Ahead
Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC. The release carries historical significance for the franchise, marking the first Call of Duty game to appear on a Nintendo platform since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts. It is also the first entry since Ghosts to skip the previous generation of consoles, PS4 and Xbox One, entirely.
