Get ready to unleash your inner office rebel! Stick It to the Stickman, the gloriously chaotic roguelite beat ’em up from Free Lives, is finally leaving early access on September 23rd. Prepare for a pixelated punch-fest as you battle your way through hostile corporate environments, armed with everything from staplers to chainsaws.

A Year in the Making: From Vision to Victory

The early access version of Stick It to the Stickman (or SITTS, for short) quickly became a cult favorite. Its endlessly cathartic stickperson fights through the innards of a hostile corporate office block were punchily chaotic and satisfying even in its abridged form. Remember when I wrote: “I’ve infiltrated floor-wide discos after injecting myself with coffee, and unleashed immensely satisfying chainsaw chaos?” That was Stick It to the Stickman at its finest.

However, the journey from vision to victory hasn’t been without its challenges. In a recent post, Free Lives revealed that the team has shrunk from 8 developers to just 4, who have been tirelessly working on this game since 2021. The pressure was immense, leading to moments like developer Evan waking up in a cold sweat, instinctively trying to slide-dash away from his ceiling fan! To prioritize the mental health of their team, Free Lives made the difficult decision to release version 1.0 earlier than originally planned.

Prioritizing Community and Cutting Scope

To ensure a polished and focused launch, Free Lives had to make some tough choices. While they initially envisioned including every single mode, they ultimately decided to prioritize those that their community was most excited about. This means that modes like “Rise of the Machines” and “Marketing Department” will remain unfinished. However, the core experience remains incredibly strong, offering hours of addictive gameplay.

New Modes and a Price Adjustment

The full release of Stick It to the Stickman brings two brand new modes: Neurolink and an “absolutely absurd finale” designed for players who have conquered the corporate ladder. Additionally, the Foreign Manufacturing mode is getting a significant update, introducing two new playstyles: the teleporting ninja and the moneybag-wielding negotiator. These additions promise even more variety and replayability.

With the release of version 1.0, the price will be adjusted to $12 (or equivalent). So, if you’re eager to dive into the pixelated pandemonium, now is the time to grab it at its current discounted price of £4.19/€4.89/$4.89 on Steam, a deal that ends on August 21st. And for those who are still on the fence, there’s a free demo available on the game’s Steam page, offering a taste of the chaotic fun to come.
