Mortal Shell 2: Cold Symmetry Responds to Player Feedback with Day One Patch

Just days after its release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, Mortal Shell 2 has already received a significant patch from developer Cold Symmetry. This isn’t your typical bug fix update; it’s a clear indication that the studio is actively listening to player feedback and committed to refining the souls-like action RPG experience. While early reviews praised the game’s challenging combat and unique “shell” system, some players found certain aspects, particularly gold farming, to be overly burdensome. This patch directly addresses those concerns, promising a smoother and more enjoyable journey through the grim world of Mortal Shell 2.

A Focus on Player Experience

The core of this update revolves around rebalancing key gameplay elements. One of the most welcome changes is the refund for Glimpses spent on discovering shell locations. Previously, players had to spend a rare currency to pinpoint the whereabouts of each powerful shell. Now, those Glimpses are being returned, and finding shells will cost Gloom instead – a more readily available resource. This change, as Cold Symmetry put it, ensures that “finding your favorite shell shouldn’t cost you the ability to bond with them.”

Taming the Difficulty Curve

Another major adjustment focuses on enemy and boss health. Cold Symmetry has reverted all enemies featured in the beta build to their original HP values. This means that the starting area, which some players found overly challenging compared to the full release, has been toned down. While the game remains undeniably difficult, this change should provide a more manageable introduction for new players. Boss encounters have also received attention, with adjustments made to damage and attack timing to create a fairer experience.

Boosting the Economy

Perhaps the most impactful change is the significant increase to gold drops from enemies. This addresses one of the most common complaints about the game, as gold is essential for upgrading weapons and progressing through the story. Enemies in Mammon now drop double the gold, making it much easier to acquire the resources needed to build a powerful character. Furthermore, the cost to smelt weapons at the Tarforge has been drastically reduced, allowing players to experiment with different builds without spending hours grinding.

Beyond the Headlines

Balance Patch 1 also includes a host of other improvements, including buffs to Tarstones (items that grant passive bonuses or modify melee attacks), fixes for crashes and bugs, and adjustments to weapon handling. The developers have clearly put a lot of effort into addressing player concerns and refining the overall gameplay experience. While the PC version is available now, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can expect this update “shortly.” For those eager to dive back in or finally take the plunge, Balance Patch 1 promises a more polished and rewarding journey through the dark world of Mortal Shell 2.
