The StarCraft universe might be about to get a whole lot bigger. A strange anomaly has been detected on the official StarCraft website, fueling speculation that Blizzard is gearing up to unveil something big – possibly even a new game in the legendary RTS franchise.
Website Anomaly: Is This a Tease?
BLIZZARD fans are buzzing after noticing a peculiar glitch on the bağlantı”>StarCraft website. While the site still features StarCraft Remastered, which launched back in 2017, various elements, images, and text blocks have been flickering randomly on screen. Could this be a deliberate tease from BLIZZARD?
The timing is certainly intriguing. Earlier this year, a bağlantı”>report suggested that BLIZZARD had partnered with Korean gaming giant Nexon to develop a new StarCraft shooter. While BLIZZARD declined to comment at the time, and the partnership remains unconfirmed, a report yesterday from South Korean newspaper bağlantı”>Chosun (via bağlantı”>Wccftech) reaffirms that Nexon is seeking a license to develop a new StarCraft game.
Adding another layer of intrigue, BLIZZARD may have been working on its own new StarCraft game. A bağlantı”>2024 job posting for an “upcoming open-world shooter” hinted at a title in development at BLIZZARD, led by former Far Cry executive producer Dan Hay, who joined the company in 2022. bağlantı”>Reports from that time suggested this was indeed a StarCraft project.
BlizzCon: The Perfect Stage for a Big Reveal
bağlantı”>BlizzCon returns on September 12 after a bağlantı”>three-year hiatus, and BLIZZARD will undoubtedly want to make a splash with big news. There’s also a conspicuous hour-long gap on bağlantı”>BlizzCon’s day-one mainstage programming, while all other panels only have 15 minutes of downtime between them. This seems like the perfect opportunity for a major announcement during the opening ceremonies.
STARCRAFT as a franchise has been relatively quiet since 2017’s remaster of the original game, which will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2028. StarCraft 2 launched in 2010, with its subsequent expansions concluding in 2015. Meanwhile, the legendary vaporware third-person shooter STARCRAFT: Ghost was announced in 2002 and eventually confirmed to be cancelled in 2014.
It’s unclear if this website tease is related to BLIZZARD‘s own game, the one from the Nexon partnership, or if those two games are one in the same. It’s also unknown if either of them could be STARCRAFT 3, or if it’s something else entirely.
