After the surprising success of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise, it was only a matter of time before Sega turned its attention to another beloved classic. Now, prepare for a nostalgic trip back to the fantasy realm as Paramount Plus is bringing Golden Axe to life in an animated series!
A New Chapter for a Gaming Legend
The first trailer for the Golden Axe animated series has dropped, and it’s packed with self-referential humor and over-the-top action that perfectly captures the spirit of the original arcade game. Fans of The Legend of Vox Machina will find plenty to love in this comedic take on a gaming icon.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of familiar faces like Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, Gilius Thunderhead, and even the surprisingly prominent Chronos “Evil” Lait from Golden Axe 3. And yes, those “purple mutant thingies” are indeed Chicken Legs (or Chicken Stingers)!

The Quest Begins
Here’s the official description of the upcoming series:

Golden Axe follows legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they reunite to save Yuria from the evil giant Death Adder, who just won’t seem to stay dead. Their quest is complicated by Hampton Squib, an inexperienced and wildly underprepared adventurer whose dream of heroism far exceeds his abilities. Forced to work together despite their flaws, they must find a way to stop Death Adder once and for all.
Meet the Cast
The voice cast brings these iconic characters to life with Matthew Rhys as the perpetually grumpy battle dwarf Gilius Thunderhead; Lisa Gilroy as the powerful sorceress Tyris Flare; Liam McIntyre as the barbarian warrior Ax Battler; and Carl Tart as the “uncomfortably cheesy humanoid panther” Chronos “Evil” Lait. Danny Pudi joins the cast as Hampton Squib, a hilariously naive adventurer who’s in way over his head.
