The Road to Becoming Kratos
After Bautista was officially cast as Kratos in the God of War TV series last month”>being officially cast, Bautista wasted no time preparing for the role. He recently shared a video on Instagram showcasing his intense workout regimen, revealing that he’s been training for three weeks and has just two months to “get to where he needs to be.” This is a tight turnaround, especially considering the physical demands of portraying Kratos.
The situation arose after Ryan Hurst, who was originally cast as Kratos, suffered an injury also putting in the work at the gym for the role”>during his own training. This forced Amazon to make the difficult decision to recast the role, leading them to quickly bring in Dave Bautista. With production slated to restart in October, Bautista is under immense pressure to bulk up and embody the legendary Spartan.
It’s worth noting that Bautista had recently shed a significant amount of weight and muscle after years of action roles and professional wrestling. While he was always a strong contender for the role, some questioned if he could truly capture Kratos’ imposing physique in the timeframe available. It seems Bautista is determined to prove those doubters wrong.
Interestingly, Christopher Judge, the actor who currently voices and portrays Kratos in the God of War games, revealed he auditioned to play the character in live-action”>revealed that he himself auditioned for the role.
