Microsoft is testing an unannounced “Streak” feature for Xbox that tracks how many consecutive days a user plays the console, potentially tying progress to in-game rewards. The counter appears on dashboards of users enrolled in the Xbox Insider program, according to Game File’s Stephen Totilo.
The streak reportedly activates after three days of use within a week, displaying the number of consecutive days dedicated to playing Xbox games. Microsoft has experimented with similar concepts before through Game Pass and the Xbox mobile app, but this would be its most prominent version yet.

Whether Streaks offer tangible benefits remains unclear. Totilo’s research suggests they could connect to Xbox reward points, which are redeemable for digital items and gift cards. On Microsoft’s side, the feature may serve as a way to keep users engaged more consistently, drawing on the same psychological pull seen in Wordle or mobile games offering daily login rewards.
The implementation raises concerns about notification frequency, with users potentially being pinged mid-game about their progress. If rolled out publicly, an opt-out option would be welcome given varying tolerance for such prompts. However, Totilo noted that testing does not guarantee the feature will appear across the Xbox ecosystem long-term; fine print for Xbox Insiders states these features may not become “permanent additions.”
Separately, Microsoft has confirmed Mythic Achievements as a new addition to Xbox. Mythic Achievements serve as proof of accomplishments within a game and are earned when all original achievements have been collected, functioning similarly to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies.
