The upcoming historical action series Bloodaxe, from the creator of Netflix’s Vikings, will premiere Jan. 20, 2027, exclusively on Prime Video.
Bloodaxe debuted its first teaser trailer Friday during a panel at New York Comic Con, where creator Michael Hirst, co-showrunner Horatio Hirst, and cast members Xavier Molyneux, Jessica Madsen, and Levi Miller discussed the show. All eight episodes of Bloodaxe season 1 will arrive on the same day.
What is Bloodaxe about?
Set in 10th-century Norway, Bloodaxe follows the rise of Erik Bloodaxe (Molyneux), a Norse raider fighting to claim the Norwegian throne alongside his wife, Gunnhild, Mother of Kings (Madsen). Their quest unfolds amid rivalries, shifting alliances, and bloody betrayals, with rulers from across Scandinavia — and a powerful English king — drawn into the conflict.

Like Vikings, Hirst’s new series draws on the history and legends of the Norse world, with political power struggles and violent clashes at the center of its story. Hirst created the original Vikings series, which ran for six seasons on Netflix from 2013 to 2020. He later served as an executive producer on its sequel, Vikings: Valhalla.
Bloodaxe has already secured a second season, currently in production in Ireland. The series also stars Karlis Arnolds Avots, Rod Hallett, Alina Tomnikov, Sisse Marie, Rune Temte, and Jesper Christensen.
