The Romanceable Characters

The Blood of Dawnwalker features three compelling romance options: Anca, Lacra, and Crake. Each character offers a distinct path to romance, with unique quests and dialogue choices that shape your relationship. Whether you’re drawn to Anca’s gentle nature, Lacra’s mysterious allure, or Crake’s unwavering dedication, this guide provides the roadmap to unlock their affection.

  • Anca: A human herbalist from Laslea Glen, known for her kindness and wisdom.
  • Lacra: A female vampire on a quest for revenge, possessing an enigmatic charm.
  • Crake: The human leader of the Manumits rebellion, driven by a strong sense of justice (his real name is Marat).

While it’s possible to romance all three characters within a single playthrough, careful attention to detail is essential to avoid accidentally rejecting any potential partners. This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to navigate each character’s quest line and unlock their affection.

Romancing Anca: The Gentle Herbalist

Your journey with Anca begins in the prologue, where you first encounter her as a fellow resident of Laslea Glen. During the “Withering Away” quest, when Anca suggests a Latin reading session, accepting this proposal initiates the flirtatious “Page-Turner” quest. Insisting on reading the book with the red cover is key to initiating the romantic spark.

Remember that Anca is human, so maintaining her health is paramount. Speaking to her in vampire form with less than one chunk of HP can be fatal, ending the romance prematurely. To successfully woo Anca, complete the following quests and carefully choose your dialogue options:

  • “Echoes of Silenced Bells”: Received automatically after the prologue. Any ending works, but allowing Anca to perform the spell will make her happier.
  • “Between the Words”: Meet Anca at the old inn. Offer to make tea for her and say “It’s my pleasure” when you give it to her. After inspecting the book, say “Always? What do you mean?” followed by “Your feelings toward me.”
  • “Where Old Devils Lie”: At the old inn, say “Thank you for trying to help me” (white dialogue option) followed by “That’s what you see me as — a friend?”. After looking at the map, say “Who knows what else I have in store for you.” When setting off to find the ancient temple, tell Anca you care for her while gazing at the lake.
  • “Stronger Than Achilles”: At the start of this quest, you can leave Anca at the temple and return later – if you do so, ensure every monster is dead! When reaching the idol, let Coen insert his hand (three times total) instead of Anca. When hitting a dead end, confess your love by saying: “I’d do anything for you,” and “I love you.” Finally, at the Font of Life, let Anca use the Font.

Even if Coen refuses to insert his hand in the idol’s mouth or takes the Font of Life himself, it’s still possible to romance Anca. However, certain dialogue choices are crucial for unlocking her affection:

  • Pick: “I beg to differ,” or “I meant what I said.”
  • Say: “Let’s do something fun for once.”
  • Say: “Screw decency. I want you, too.”

Romancing Lacra: The Enigmatic Vampire

To find Lacra, head to Svartrau City after the prologue and visit the alley in the northeast, near the Svartrau Cathedral’s courtyard. This initiates the “A Friend Like This” quest. Since Lacra is a vampire, there’s no risk of accidentally killing her. However, one crucial point of no return can lock you out of this romance: after completing “Our Rotten Roots”, wait one day and speak with Lacra again. This will trigger two quests: “The Night of Horrors”. Complete “The Night of Horrors” first, or you won’t be able to romance her anymore.

Here’s a list of every quest you should do to unlock Lacra’s romance scene, in order. It’s possible to oppose Lacra at several points and still romance her:

  • “A Friend Like This”: Fight Lacra and feel free to spare the Uriashi afterward.
  • “Song of the Mountain”: Agree to feed on the human together, but it won’t lead to any flirting. When reaching the Uriashi village, you can oppose Lacra and take the peaceful route.
  • “Hive and Seek”: No flirting, just complete the quest any way you like.
  • “The Night of Horrors”: Feel free to ask follow-up questions when Lacra bares her heart to lure the wisps. Your chance to romance her comes at the end of this quest, when you find the mandrake.

At the end of “The Night of Horrors”, choose these options:

  • Eat the mandrake.
  • Follow Lacra.
  • Drink from her wrist.
  • Kiss Lacra.

Romancing Crake: The Dedicated Leader

To meet Crake for the first time, complete “The Firebrand” and its subsequent “Shadows in the Woods” quest. You can start this by inspecting Vlad’s house in Laslea Glen (after the prologue) and Mert’s Mill. However, since your notoriety is probably low, Crake will ask you to become notorious (infamy level 4 or higher) first. You won’t see him again until that happens.

When you’ve reached infamy level 4, the Manumits will send you a message, starting Crake’s quest line. Your decisions won’t affect the romance much, but remember that Crake is human, so take care not to let him die. It’s also possible to accidentally kill him in vampire form if you’re low on blood.

Be aware of a point of no return: if you start “Rise at Dawn” before “Distant Shadows”, you can no longer complete this romance! Neither “Who Pulls the Strings” nor “Rise at Dawn” are required for Crake’s romance – feel free to do both quests afterward.

Here’s a list of quests to complete if you want to romance Crake:

  • “Where Loyalty Lies”: No flirting yet, just do as Crake says.
  • “What Hunts the Night”: When Coen and Crake flee the Middens, be sure to help Crake escape. If you don’t, he’ll die. Later, when you’re hiding together, there’s an opportunity for intimate conversation. Pick: “Don’t you want to talk about Sara?”, followed by “You sure? You look upset” and “I know what it’s like to lose someone.” Next, say: “Maybe we could talk about them, instead,” followed by the white line “Just one more thing — you can count on me.”
  • “What Moves the Dead”: At the end of the quest, say: “First, I’ll walk you back to the hideout.” This requires one time segment, but you’ll get the opportunity to take off Crake’s armor and dress his wound. You can still romance Crake if you don’t do this, but you’ll miss a good amount of flirting.
  • “Distant Shadows”: Find Crake in the manumit hideout in Svartrau City and say “You wanted to discuss something with me.” Complete “Distant Shadows” – it doesn’s matter if you mess up, Crake will run off anyway. When Drogos talks to you, be sure to reply with “I’ll go talk to him” to obtain the next quest.
  • “A Closer Look”: Follow Crake to the cliff south of Svartrau City. This is a timed quest, so don’t wait too long!

At the end of “A Closer Look”, choose these options:

  • Pick “You’re hiding something” or “I’m worried about you.”
  • Pick one of these lines: “I came here because I care for you,” “I know what this is about,” or “Please, just tell me the truth.”
  • Say: “Hey. Nothing you say can change the way I see you.”
  • Kiss him back.

This guide provides a comprehensive roadmap to unlocking romance in The Blood of Dawnwalker. By carefully following these instructions and paying attention to dialogue choices, you can experience every facet of each character’s unique story and forge lasting connections that enrich your journey through this captivating world.
