Ubisoft has announced the shuttering of two of its studios and the dismissal of hundreds of employees, a move that underscores a broader restructuring within the company.
Insider Gaming reports that 51 staff members have been let go from Ubisoft Barcelona, with a senior programmer from Ubisoft Paris, Mataoui Chakib Souleyman, confirming that the layoffs will affect roughly 20 % of the studio’s workforce. The remaining team is slated to concentrate solely on Rainbow Six titles.
The company has also closed one of its two facilities in Belgrade, Serbia, resulting in the loss of 100 positions, according to Insider Gaming.
In Canada, Ubisoft’s Winnipeg studio has been shut down, leaving about 65 employees unemployed. This closure marks a significant contraction in the company’s North American presence.
According to fresh insights from Game Developer, Ubisoft is trimming its workforce by up to 380 employees in a new round of restructuring.
“Ubisoft is continuing to take targeted actions to reduce costs and focus resources on its strategic priorities as part of its efforts to strengthen the business over the long term,” a spokesperson told BNN Bloomberg of the closure.
