In a bold crossover move, Capcom has announced that Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII will appear as a new guest fighter in Street Fighter 6, marking the latest addition to the franchise’s fourth‑year roster of fresh characters.
During the Summer Game Fest reveal, Final Fantasy VII director Naoki Hamaguchi praised the global affection for Tifa, saying the decision to feature her in Street Fighter 6 was driven by a desire to showcase “a Tifa who truly fights within the world of Street Fighter 6.”
Takayuki Nakayama, the director of Street Fighter 6, explained that Tifa’s iconic Materia abilities will be transformed into a new gameplay system, and that every aspect—from her visual design to her movement—has been reimagined to fit the Street Fighter universe.
In the teaser released at the event, viewers were given a glimpse of Tifa’s upcoming role, though her character model and in‑game appearance remain undisclosed. Nakayama confirmed that further details will be unveiled in future announcements.
Fans of the iconic fighting franchise can look forward to a fresh wave of characters arriving in Street Fighter 6 during the summer, as Capcom rolls out the fourth-year roster expansion. The lineup will feature the World Tour protagonist Bosch, along with two newcomers that have never graced the series before: Yasmine and Arjun. Yasmine’s debut is slated for August 3, followed by Arjun later in the fall, Tifa slated for “early” 2027, and Bosch arriving in the spring of that year.
Tifa’s return to the fighting arena is no surprise, given her history with the genre. Back in the PlayStation 1 era, she and Cloud made a cameo in Ehrgeiz. Since then, Cloud has become a staple in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, while both Noctis from FFXV and Clive from FFXVI have appeared in the Tekken series. Tekken 8 fans have long campaigned for Tifa’s inclusion, hoping to see her clash with the franchise’s roster.
In a 2024 interview, Tekken creator Katsuhiro Harada acknowledged the allure of Tifa, remarking, “We all know she is attractive and I understand that.” However, he clarified that no decisions had been made regarding guest characters. Harada has since departed Tekken to launch his own studio, prompting a lighthearted joke from a fan on the Tekken subreddit: “Harada quit Tekken because he couldn’t get Tifa.”
