•Squadron 42, the singleplayer spinoff that Star Citizen developers Cloud Imperium Pelit have been teasing and promising for a long time, now has a Steam page. Things are finally gearing up for its launch next year, alongside a new trailer emphasising that pretty much every sci-fi celebrity under the sun is set to make a cameo.
The Steam page sets in place Cloud Imperium’s plan to launch Squadron 42 in the second quarter of 2027, sometime between April and June. “Enlist as a rookie in the UEE Navy and step into a cinematic, single-player space adventure where you are at the center of the action,” it declares. “Live, work, and fight alongside your crew, brought to life by an all-star cast, as the story unfolds across fighter cockpits, capital ships, space stations, frontier outposts, and the front lines of a galactic war.”

Cloud Imperium Pelit
Cloud Imperium has also released a new trailer which paints Squadron 42 as blending the vibes of Mass Effect and Star Trek: you play a grunt in a huge interstellar army that stores small ships inside big city-sized vessels, with everyone dressed for lunch at Captain Kirk’s table. There is talk of serving and protecting Earth, soldiers being left behind, and fighting with honour.
The trailer shows the player dogfighting in their ship, talking to superiors, and eating sandwiches in a canteen on the UEES Stanton.
It ends with a long list of famous actors set to cameo in Squadron 42. Alongside Gary Oldman, those named include Mark Hamill, Gillian Anderson, Andy Serkis, Henry Cavill, Mark Strong, John Rhys-Davies, and more. Players choosing their male or female soldier will pick between the voice of Cyberpunk 2077’s Alt Cunningham and another actor.
