Valve has released the CAD files for its Steam Frame VR headset, opening up the hardware to modders looking to build their own modifications.

The release covers the light blocker—the part that sits between the bridge of the nose and the headset—which is designed for user replacement. Also included are models for the head strap, battery housing, facial interface, core module, and controllers.

Valve has confirmed it is working on an upgraded head strap featuring interchangeable batteries and off-ear speakers for the Steam Frame. With this CAD release, further third-party options may emerge in future.

The documentation also details a port Valve calls “auxiliary,” located just to the front of the user’s nose. This allows users to add powered accessories such as the Arcturus Vision RGB camera. It provides one Gen4 PCIe lane alongside power and camera functionality, laid out in the docs, leaving room for further use.

With this release, Valve now has a full sweep of CAD files available for its most recent products, including previously released models for other devices.
