A new report is sending shockwaves through the industry, revealing that major memory manufacturers are completely sold out of crucial components, thanks to insatiable demand from AI companies.

According to a report by DigiTimes, (via Tweaktown), Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron – the titans of PC memory production – have already exhausted their DRAM and HBM output for next year. And there are no plans to ramp up production further. This isn’t just a temporary shortage; it’s a fundamental imbalance between supply and demand, driven by the explosive growth of AI infrastructure.
These manufacturers have existing contracts with corporations building out massive data centers, and they are obligated to fulfill those commitments. While this is good news for businesses investing in AI, it paints a grim picture for consumers looking to build or upgrade their gaming PCs.
What This Means For Your Wallet
The implications are clear: expect even tighter component availability and higher prices for PCs, laptops, and other smart devices in 2027. Microsoft had already hinted at this a few months ago when announcing new Xbox price hikes, warning that even more price increases could be on the horizon. “Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x, and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027,” Microsoft stated in June.
The rising cost of technology has been a persistent issue over the past few years, with consoles bearing the brunt of it. The Xbox Series X|S and PS5 are now more expensive in 2026 than they were at launch in 2020 – a time when console prices typically decrease.
