A New Era for PUBG: Roguelite Mayhem
Set in the fictional world of Cascadia, circa the 1990s, Ded Net is described as “a new multiplayer FPS that blends shooter gameplay with roguelite progression.” This means players will face procedurally generated levels and challenges each time they play, ensuring a fresh experience every run. The tagline, “death is just the beginning,” perfectly encapsulates this core mechanic – expect to die often, but learn from your mistakes and become stronger with each attempt.
Krafton’s ambition to evolve the PUBG franchise is no secret. While the original battle royale remains a juggernaut, the company clearly envisions a broader ecosystem encompassing diverse genres and experiences. This expansion strategy isn’t without its risks, as evidenced by past ventures that haven’t quite lived up to expectations.
One notable example is The Callisto Protocol, a horror title developed by Glen Schofield, a veteran of the Call of Duty franchise. Initially conceived with ties to the PUBG universe, it ultimately distanced itself from the brand. Similarly, PUBG Blindspot was short-lived, shutting down just two months after its release.
