It’s hard to believe it’s been ten years. On August 9th, 2016, a new era began for PlayStation gamers as they stepped onto the surface of their first alien planet in No Man’s Sky. The initial words echoing through their exosuits – “Hazard protection active” – marked not just a beginning, but the dawn of an ongoing adventure. Whether you were there at launch or joined the journey later, countless Travellers have awakened on distant worlds, forging a shared universe together.
A Universe Built by Players
Over the past decade, millions of players have made No Man’s Sky their home. They’ve constructed incredible bases, fostered thriving communities, forged lasting friendships, and crafted custom ships that range from whimsical tributes to pop culture icons like Spongebob Squarepants to awe-inspiring structures resembling entire cathedrals. The creativity on display within the game is truly astounding.

The journey hasn’s been limited to just exploring planets; players have also joined Hello Games on an ongoing quest to expand and deepen what No Man’s Sky could be. With 40 major free updates, the game has evolved dramatically, adding features like base-building, exocraft, settlements, mechs, pets, living ships, and expeditions. The developers have also consistently added support for new PlayStation hardware, including PSVR, PS5, and now PSVR2, allowing players to experience the universe in increasingly immersive ways.

PlayStation gamers have been integral to this journey since the beginning; it’s truly our “Big Bang” moment! Tens of millions of Travellers have spent hundreds of millions of hours exploring and sharing their discoveries, making the universe more vibrant than ever before. The release of Voyagers last year saw a surge in players, proving that even after all these years, the game continues to captivate new audiences.

And here’s the incredible part: despite all this exploration, players have only explored less than 1% of the planets in No Man’s Sky. This vastness is a testament to the ambition and scope of the game. The team at Hello Games feels similarly that there’s still so much potential left to explore within the universe of No Man’s Sky.

Behind the scenes, development continues on their next project, Light No Fire, and exciting plans are in motion for the future of No Man’s Sky. More details will be revealed soon!

The journey continues, and we can’t wait to see where it takes us next! Stay tuned for more updates from the universe of No Man’s Sky.
