Nintendo Switch Sports Resort releases tomorrow (22nd October), and Nintendo is making sure that launch day goes smoothly by releasing its very first update.

The ver. 1.1.0 update is now available. As is often the case with these launch-day jobbies, its purpose is mainly to enable all of the online modes so everyone can play some non-local többjátékos right from the jump. That said, the update also introduces a Mii frequency adjuster, where you can choose how often your Miis appear in offline competitive sports.

The full patch notes have only been shared on the Japanese Nintendo website at the time of writing, so we have attached their machine translation below. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the official English translation and will update the following when we have it.

Nintendo Switch Sports Resort Ver. 1.1.0 (21st Oct 2026)

Mii

  • You can now adjust the frequency of Mii appearances. You can do this under “Options” → “User Settings” → “Other”.
  • This setting is for offline use only in competitive sports.
  • If you change the setting to “Always,” the Mii characters registered on the device and the guest’s Mii will appear every time.
  • When playing with multiple players, the most frequently used settings take precedence.

General

  • Online matches are now available.
    – This mode allows you to challenge players from around the world online and aim to be promoted to higher leagues.
    – You can play 9 different competitive sports.
  • “Casual Online” is now available to play.
    – This mode allows you to play online matches casually without keeping a record of wins and losses.
    – You can play 9 different competitive sports.
    – If you select “Play with a distant friend,” you can team up with a friend who is far away and compete against players from around the world.
  • The “Play with friends far away” feature is now available.
    – This mode allows up to 8 people to play together online.
    – You can play a total of 12 different sports, including competitive and recreational sports.
    – You can also split into multiple groups and play different sports simultaneously.
    – The “Join ID” feature allows you to temporarily play online matches with people who are not your friends.
  • We’ve fixed several issues to improve your gaming experience.

We had a wonderful time with Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, calling it “everything Switch Sports should have been at launch and more” in our 9/10 review.
