Microsoft finally fixes one of the most annoying things about PowerShell on macOS

Microsoft has finally addressed persistent technical challenges affecting PowerShell on macOS, delivering long-awaited improvements that will streamline the cross-platform scripting experience for developers and system administrators alike.

The upcoming release will feature properly notarized PowerShell packages and tarballs, eliminating disruptive GateKeeper warnings that have historically plagued macOS installations. Additionally, the software’s libraries and binaries are undergoing security hardening to meet Apple’s stringent requirements for distributed applications, while a critical bug fixing file permissions in the tarball will ensure more reliable deployment processes.

Microsoft emphasized that sustained customer feedback drove these enhancements, with the next maintenance release of PowerShell 7.4 (or later) poised to eliminate the need for complex workarounds and security configuration modifications. Looking ahead, the company has positioned 2026 as a pivotal year for PowerShell evolution, with version 7.7 in development and security considerations taking priority over feature expansion.
