Solid topic, and honestly one that gets glossed over until your server gets parked during a ranked tournament. On the architecture side, I’d split mitigation into two layers: kernel/stack hardening at home and upstream scrubbing for volumetric hits. Locally, enable SYN cookies (net.ipv4.tcp_syncookies=1), cap net.core.somaxconn and tune tcp_max_syn_backlog to match your connection expectations, and use nftables to drop obviously spoofed source ranges before they hit userspace. The biggest win most people miss is NIC hardware offloading — enable SYN proxy offload or use a dedicated firewall appliance (pfSense/OPNsense on separate hardware) so the mitigation path never competes with your game server’s CPU. For a competitive dedicated box, I run the game process with CPU affinity pinned to a dedicated core set and leave the networking/NIC cores free, so a spike in packet processing doesn’t steal cycles from your tickrate.

On the benchmark side, the metric that actually matters for competitive play is not raw throughput but packet-processing latency variance under load. I run a sustained flood simulation (iper3 UDP floods plus synthetic game traffic) and measure p99 and p999 latency to the game server, not just average FPS or tick consistency. A scrubbing provider that adds 2-3ms of latency in the routing path will wreck a 128-tick CS/Valorant server even if bandwidth looks fine, so always demand the scrubbing redirect latency in your SLA.

Honestly disagree with that take. Controllers use an analog stick with 1cm range of motion; without assist crossplay is impossible.
