Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 maker Warhorse Studios is the latest video game company to get hit with a cyberattack. The company, which is working on an open-world RPG adaptation of The Lord of the Rings, said it’s still assessing the damage from the security breach.

“Warhorse Studios confirms that it has been the target of a cyberattack,” the studio wrote in an announcement on its website. “We are working with cybersecurity experts to secure our systems, investigate the incident, and assess its full impact. The attack involved unauthorized access to company systems as well as access to company data. We are coordinating with the relevant authorities as the investigation continues.”

“This is a serious incident for Warhorse Studios and everyone affected,” CEO Martin Frývaldský said. “Our immediate priority is to secure our systems, establish the full extent of the breach, and take the necessary steps to protect our employees, partners, and community. We are dedicating the resources needed to address this situation and will communicate further information as soon as we responsibly can.”

It’s unclear what data, if any, was stolen. Anyone operating online, including gaming companies, has recently been threatened by a rash of security vulnerabilities surfaced by AI. Bad actors can also use AI to take advantage of exploits that otherwise wouldn’t be feasible to attempt manually. An issue with PHP, a scripting language upon which much of the modern web is built, led a number of websites to go offline recently. Some older browser games have had to discontinue service entirely.

“To further strengthen security related to the PHP programming language used in the PlayStation 4 and Steam versions of Street Fighter V, content requiring online functionality is currently unavailable,” Capcom announced overnight. “Offline content remains available and can still be enjoyed. Emergency maintenance is currently underway to address this issue. Until the fix has been completed, sales on the PlayStation Store and Steam will be suspended in stages. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your patience and understanding.”

Capcom and Square Enix have also recently suffered online breaches, though the two gaming companies didn’t specify whether the recent cyberattacks were likely powered by AI or not.
