In a series of posts on X, Vivian addressed the persistent rumors. “You know, this is as good a time as any to finally address the missing 20 minutes from Eyes Wide Shut,” she wrote. She explained that her father had a strict policy of destroying outtakes after filming wrapped, a practice intended to prevent studios from altering his work without permission. While acknowledging the speculation surrounding the alleged missing footage, Vivian stated she “never heard anything about a missing 20 minutes at the time, nor have I heard anything since that would confirm such a section ever existed.”
She clarified that the only alteration she was aware of involved the use of CGI to obscure nudity in the orgy scene, a decision made by Warner Bros. to secure an R rating. Vivian also emphasized that Eyes Wide Shut was in “picture lock” and nearing completion when her father passed away, with only final sound mixing and music work remaining.
