The world of espionage gaming just got a little brighter. IO Interactive, the legendary studio behind the acclaimed Hitman series, is celebrating a major victory with their James Bond title, 007 First Light. The game has officially surpassed 4 million units sold since its release less than three months ago, solidifying its position as a commercial success and a critical darling.
A Resounding Success for IO Interactive
The news was shared on social media, where IOI expressed their gratitude to players for their unwavering support. This milestone follows a previous update where CEO and Game Director Hakan Abrak revealed that 007 First Light had already reached 2.7 million sales in just over a week after launch. This latest achievement is particularly significant given the challenging period the studio has faced, including layoffs resulting from the cancellation of their Microsoft Xbox publishing contract for the upcoming game, Project Fantasy.
The success of 007 First Light undoubtedly increases the likelihood of a sequel in the future. However, with Amazon now owning the James Bond franchise, they are expected to have a more active role in any potential follow-up. This is important to remember, as IOI self-published 007 First Light, giving them full creative control.
A Triumphant Bond Adaptation
007 First Light was widely praised for its engaging narrative and faithful adaptation of the James Bond universe. The game follows a young, rookie 00 agent training at MI6. Our own review awarded it four stars, calling it “a narrative tour-de-fource.” It’s available on Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
Activision Cracks Down on Call of Duty Cheaters
In a separate development, Activision has taken a proactive approach to combating cheating in Call of Duty. They recently posted footage of one of their legal representatives visiting the Ohio home of a notorious cheat seller, Elocarry, and serving him with a cease-and-desist order. The video shows a representative pulling up outside a house, meeting a man (whose face is blurred), and handing over paperwork. This action targets sellers whose cheats extend beyond Call of Duty to other multiplayer games like Rust and Apex Legends.
Before the visit, Elocarry had reportedly been selling cheat packs for upcoming titles like Black Ops 7 and Warzone, advertised as undetectable by RICOCHET. Following the visit, Activision shared a screenshot from Elocarry’s Discord confirming that sales of Call of Duty products had been “temporarily paused.”
Activision stated that this was just one part of a larger operation, claiming to have served over 80 cease-and-desist demands, targeted over 375 reseller operations, and shut down more than 30 vendors entirely. They issued a stern warning: “build cheats, sell cheats, we will find you.”
Activision also used this opportunity to highlight improvements to the anti-cheat system heading into Modern Warfare 4. They reported lower infection rates, harder-to-evade hardware bans, and improved response times during last weekend’s beta. The second beta weekend for Modern Warfare 4 is currently underway and open to everyone, offering a multiplayer test, a campaign mission, and a Warzone battle royale drop.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (2026) launches on October 23rd on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The full game will feature 12 6v6 multiplayer maps, compared to the four available in the beta.
