Following months of speculation surrounding Apple’s latest software updates, the tech giant officially announced macOS 27 at the 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference. Unlike a significant overhaul, macOS 27 is primarily geared towards enhancing the user experience and addressing the nagging issues reported by users over the past year. This update to Apple’s operating system has been christened as Golden Gate.
In terms of new features, macOS 27 doesn’t promise a lengthy list, mirroring Apple’s approach with Snow Leopard in 2009. The Liquid Glass interface, while not entirely phased out, has been revamped to boost readability. A new slider in settings allows users to adjust the transparency of Liquid Glass, ranging from ultra-clear to fully tinted. Furthermore, app icons receive an extra layer of Liquid Glass for enhanced clarity. Other improvements include smoother system animations, faster content loading, and a uniform corner radius for windows.
In sync with the release of iOS 27, Apple is introducing a standalone Siri app for iPhone users. This innovative AI application, set to debut on Macs with the latest update, boasts a chatbot-style interface and aspires to challenge Google’s Gemini and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. The app supports both text and voice commands, offering users access to their previous conversations for reference.
Expanding its horizons beyond voice assistance, Siri now offers a multitude of functionalities such as on-device search, image generation, information summarization, and more. It also caters to personal context, seamlessly integrating with various apps to enable users to complete tasks with a single command. An intriguing feature is the screen awareness capability, which allows users to inquire about locations and images displayed on their screens.
Unfortunately, this advancement might not be accessible for all Mac users as macOS 27 is exclusively designed to work with Apple Silicon chips, thereby discontinuing support for Intel-based Macs. The following devices will be incompatible with macOS 27:

Apple developers have already gained access to the first beta of macOS 27. The public beta version is anticipated to be released next month, while the stable version is slated for this fall.
