If You’re Worried, Don’t Sweat It”: Diablo 4 Director Reassures Fans Following Diablo 5 Reveal

Diablo 4 director Brent Gibson has moved to calm a wave of anxiety among the game’s player base, insisting there is no reason to worry about its future after Blizzard announced Diablo 5 at Blizzcon 2026. In an interview with Icy Veins, Gibson detailed Blizzard’s long-term plans for the 2023 action RPG, confirming that the title will keep receiving major content updates — including a new Amazon class slated for the first half of 2027 — well after its sequel’s reveal.

'If You're Worried, Don't Sweat It'

The announcement at Blizzcon 2026 left fans in a state of mixed emotion. While the prospect of a new entry in the long-running franchise was undeniably exciting, the timing landed awkwardly for many: Diablo 4 launched in 2023, and the rapid unveiling of a follow-up felt to some like an early death knell for the game players were still investing their time in.

Gibson, however, dismissed those concerns outright, painting a picture of a studio that views its Diablo titles not as competing products but as parts of a single, expanding world.

“The Train Isn’t Stopping”

Opening his analogy to Icy Veins, Gibson urged players to keep perspective on the situation.

“I have an analogy. If you’re wearing a sign in the middle of Times Square saying, ‘The end is nigh,’ the end is not nigh. We have a lot coming. We have the Amazon class coming down the road. The train isn’t stopping.”

Brent Gibson, Diablo 4 director

He went on to emphasize Blizzard’s broader philosophy about the franchise, noting that the studio is even expanding older entries such as Diablo 2 with new content like the Warlock.

“One of the things I love about our world is we are not a series of games. We are a universe. We are even adding to Diablo 2 with the Warlock. It’s one of the few franchises where we have the luxury of continued play, and we know our communities. If you’re worried, don’t sweat it, because we’re going to be making content for a long time. But we are excited about Diablo 5. We’ve got a show coming. Gone are the years of waiting a decade for more content. It’s a great place to be.”

For Gibson, the commitment to ongoing support is tied directly to player engagement. He said Blizzard intends to sustain Diablo 4’s seasonal content “as long as the community continues to show up,” pointing to the studio’s continued investment in Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 as evidence of that principle in action.

“There are still people who play those games, and as long as you’re showing up, we’re going to continue to be making content,” he assured.

A Universe, Not a Series

The reassurances were echoed across Blizzard’s leadership during a dedicated Diablo panel at Blizzcon, where the studio made a string of announcements reinforcing its commitment to the current generation of games. Diablo 5 director Joe Shely stressed that Diablo 4 remains a top priority for the development team.

“Diablo 4 has bright support. It’s fully supported by the team. We were just announcing earlier today, coming to Diablo 4, the Amazon, the Season of Hell’s Legacy, Diablo 4 is coming to Switch 2, and there will continue to be ongoing support for Diablo 4. There’s many reasons for players to keep playing.”

Production director Tiffany Wat added that Blizzard’s structure of dedicated teams for each title enables closer collaboration across the franchise.

“We have dedicated teams for each of those games because those games are important to us and they’re really important for our community. I think it really gives us a really great opportunity to be able to collaborate together, to talk with one another. Even though we might be distinct teams, we still work together quite closely because ultimately we are making games for the Diablo community. I think it’s the best time to be a Diablo fan.”

Looking Ahead

With the Amazon class confirmed for the first half of 2027 and additional seasons such as the Season of Hell’s Legacy on the horizon, Diablo 4 has a clear content roadmap stretching well beyond the current year. With roughly three years separating the present from Diablo 5’s release, Gibson and his colleagues suggest there is ample opportunity to further expand the title with new classes and experiences.

For now, the message from Blizzard’s leadership is unmistakable: the studio sees no tension between launching a new Diablo game and nurturing the one players are already enjoying. As Gibson put it, the franchise has entered an era of unprecedented content delivery — and there’s plenty of room for everyone.
