Get ready for a chilling journey into the heart of 17th-century England with Hunter’s Moon, a brand new first-person historical narrative folk-horror game. Developed by Twin Swans and exclusively launching on PlayStation 5 on October 26, this title promises an immersive experience that will leave you breathless.

A Night of Terror

In Hunter’s Moon, you are thrust into a single, fateful night in a remote village. You’re not just observing; you’re living it. Interact with mummers adorned in traditional costumes, evade the relentless pursuit of witch hunters, and eavesdrop on the conversations of ordinary villagers struggling to survive amidst war and misfortune. Unravel the secrets of this fractured community as you play Lilith Thorne, an accused “witch” desperately trying to stay one step ahead of her pursuers.

Lilith Thorne flees through a moonlit forest, pursued by unseen forces. The atmosphere is thick with tension and dread.

As Lilith, you must navigate the treacherous landscape, utilizing stealth and cunning to avoid capture. Every window offers a potential source of information – warnings, advice, sacred objects, or even a haunting folk song that could aid your survival. But be warned: every choice has consequences.

Immersive Storytelling

The game features a unique eavesdropping mechanic inspired by immersive theatre, inviting you to explore the village and uncover its hidden stories. With over 100 fully voice-acted characters, Hunter’s Moon offers a rich tapestry of narratives grounded in historical realism, elevated by handcrafted stylized art.

In 1644, Matthew Hopkins began his infamous crusade against suspected witches in England, branding himself “the Witchfinder General.” His controversial methods, detailed in his book The Discovery of Witches, led to countless executions. Hunter’s Moon draws inspiration from this dark chapter of history.

A Passion Project

The journey to create Hunter’s Moon began with a screenplay inspired by the historical context of English witch hunts. This vision evolved into the formation of Twin Swans, an independent studio bringing together talented artists and developers with credits including The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Little Hope, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and Signalis. Their shared passion for history and craftsmanship guided the creation of this reimagining of a witch hunt in 17th-century England.

While rooted in historical events, Hunter’s Moon explores the universal concept of the “witch” – a figure often marginalized and feared within society. Throughout history, innocent people have been persecuted based on unfounded beliefs about magic. Even today, these practices persist in some parts of the world.

Beyond the Supernatural

Despite our modern understanding of the historical context behind witch hunts, many contemporary stories rely on supernatural elements when depicting women accused of witchcraft. Hunter’s Moon challenges this trope by asking a fundamental question: what if the true source of horror lies not in monsters or magic, but in other people? What if our own fears and prejudices are the real demons we must confront?

Inspired by true history and folk horror, Hunter’s Moon invites you to decide for yourself on the night of the full Hunter’s Moon, October 26th. Prepare to confront your own fears and question everything you thought you knew.

You are invited to wishlist the game today on PlayStation Store and prepare for a truly unforgettable experience.

Hunter’s Moon launches October 25 in North America. In other regions, including UK, Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, the game launches October 26.
