The wait continues for fans of Stardew Valley’s Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone’s next big project, Haunted Chocolatier. While details remain scarce, the developer has offered a reassuring update on its progress, emphasizing his dedication to crafting a high-quality experience.
A Glimpse Behind the Curtain
In a recent communication with fans, Barone acknowledged the anticipation surrounding Haunted Chocolatier and confirmed that development is ongoing. He expressed satisfaction with the recent advancements made, despite juggling multiple commitments. “I’m still here, still making progress,” he wrote. “Thanks for waiting and sorry it’s taking so long. I’ve been very productive on this project lately even though I am busy with many things. Working on Haunted Chocolatier is what I’m most eager and driven to do, out of everything.”
While acknowledging the years already invested in Haunted Chocolatier since its initial announcement in 2021, Barone remains unfazed by the extended timeline. The success of Stardew Valley allows him to prioritize quality over adhering to arbitrary deadlines. He reiterated his commitment to avoiding a rushed release, emphasizing that compromising on quality would ultimately be counterproductive.
“I won’t compromise on the quality of the game by rushing it or releasing it too early,” he stated. “Then all my time would be wasted, anyway.”
The developer’s commitment to perfection is evident in his past statements about meticulously crafting every detail of the game. This dedication suggests that the final product will be a truly unique and immersive experience.
“I am certain, at this point, that I will enjoy the game when it is finished,” Barone wrote. “In fact, I already enjoy playing it in its unfinished state, especially after some recent additions I made. I hope others will like it too when it’s ready.”
Despite the positive update, fans shouldn’t expect a release date anytime soon. However, Barone expressed gratitude for the continued patience and support from the community.
“I feel a little embarrassed writing any of this because you guys probably just want the game at this point, not to hear me yapping about it,” he admitted. “I get that. It can be hard to ‘keep the faith’ when you are waiting a long time. I really cherish those who do keep the faith, though, and I wish you, your family, and your pets, peace and prosperity through all seasons.”
In May, Barone highlighted significant expansions in Haunted Chocolatier, noting increases in “the amount of maps, the amount of monsters, the depth to the whole item system, and all the equipment slots.” This indicates that the game is evolving into a complex and feature-rich experience.
