In a move that will undoubtedly please fans, Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch without any microtransactions or generative AI. This announcement comes directly from a conversation with Kinda Funny Games ahead of the highly anticipated “GTA 6: Extended Look” preview event.
No Microtransactions, No AI
During the discussion, Andy Cortez from Kinda Funny Games specifically inquired about the possibility of in-game purchases using real money. Rockstar’s response was unequivocal: “There are no monetisations in this game.” Greg Miller followed up with a direct question regarding the use of generative AI in GTA 6’s development. The answer was equally clear: “No AI” was used, according to IGN.
This stance is particularly noteworthy given that Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, reportedly laid off its entire AI team earlier this year, including the head of AI. Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two, has previously expressed skepticism about the creative capabilities of AI, and this latest announcement reinforces his commitment to a human-driven development process. While many other game companies are heavily investing in AI technology, Rockstar is clearly taking a different approach.
The Ultimate Edition: A Premium Experience
While GTA 6 will be microtransaction-free, there will be gated content available in the “Ultimate Edition.” Priced at £90 (compared to £70 for the standard edition), this premium version includes exclusive cosmetics, vehicles, weapons, and even access to specific shops and services like the Electric Fang tattoo parlour and Stock 305 clothing store. Standard edition owners will have the option to purchase the Ultimate Edition upgrade separately after launch, with the bonus content gradually unlocked throughout Jason and Lucia’s story.
Chris Donlan aptly described this as “what a billion dollars gets you,” but Chris Tapsell pointed out that this push towards realism and away from easy-going fun could be a significant risk for the series, even if it’s ultimately the right direction to take.
Activision Cracks Down on Cheat Sellers
In other gaming news, Activision has taken a proactive approach to combating cheating in Call of Duty. They recently posted footage of one of their legal representatives visiting the Ohio home of Elocarry, a notorious cheat seller, and personally serving a cease-and-desist order. The roughly one-minute clip shows the representative handing over the paperwork with no drama or confrontation.
Elocarry, whose cheats extended beyond Call of Duty to other multiplayer games like Rust and Apex Legends, had reportedly been selling cheat packs for Black Ops 7 and Warzone, advertised as undetectable by RICOCHET. Following the visit, Activision shared a screenshot from Elocarry’s Discord confirming that sales of Call of Duty products were “temporarily paused” while an internal review was underway.
Activision claims this is just one part of a much larger operation, stating they have served over 80 cease-and-desist demands, targeted over 375 reseller operations, and shut down more than 30 vendors entirely. They issued a stern warning to anyone involved in creating or selling cheats: “build cheats, sell cheats, we will find you.”
Furthermore, Activision used this opportunity to highlight improvements being made to the anti-cheat system ahead of Modern Warfare 4’s release, noting that infection rates were lower, hardware bans were harder to evade, and their response time was faster during the recent beta weekend. The second beta weekend is currently underway and is open to everyone, offering a multiplayer test, a campaign mission, and a Warzone battle royale drop.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23rd for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The full game will feature 12 6v6 multiplayer maps, compared to the four available in the beta. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (2026) is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
