Rockstar Games has officially unleashed a tidal wave of information about Grand Theft Auto 6, and it’s safe to say that gamers are buzzing. From stunning new locations to revamped gameplay mechanics, the highly anticipated sequel promises to be an epic experience. But perhaps the most mind-blowing revelation? The game’s map is absolutely massive – twice the size of GTA 5’s!
A World Twice as Big
In a recent chat with YouTuber TGG, Rockstar’s head of development, Rob Nelson, dropped the bombshell about the sheer scale of GTA 6’s world. “The map is twice the size of GTA 5’s map, three times the size of Red Dead 2’s map,” explained TGG, summarizing the numbers. “Vice City itself is twice the size of Los Santos, and Vice City and its surrounding suburbs is 11 times bigger than Los Santos and its surrounds, which is, like, nuts, dude.”
The Netflix showcase offered glimpses of six key locations within the game’s Florida-inspired setting: Vice City itself, the tourist hotspot Port Gellhorn, the archipelago of Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers swamps, Mount Kalaga National Park, and Ambrosia. With so much to explore, players can expect a truly expansive open world.
80 Hours for the Main Story (and Plenty More!)
So, how long will it take to experience all that GTA 6 has to offer? Nelson revealed that his recent playthrough took around 80 hours, focusing on the main story and some “optional goals with narrative ramifications.” This suggests there’s a wealth of side content and activities for players who want to dive deeper into the game’s world. From revamped driving mechanics and car-jacking to a new Wanted system and relationship system, GTA 6 is packed with features.
Rockstar’s reveal comes after a week of leaks, allowing them to reclaim the narrative surrounding their next big release. However, the company remains embroiled in controversy regarding alleged union busting practices in the UK.
Ultra-Realism: A Risky but Necessary Shift?
The Netflix showcase was so popular that it briefly overwhelmed the streaming service. Eurogamer editor-in-chief Chris Tapsell noted that GTA 6’s apparent shift towards ultra-realism is both a huge risk and the right thing to do. As Christian Donlan succinctly put it: here’s what a billion dollars gets you.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta – A Mixed Bag
Meanwhile, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta is underway. This open portion is available on Switch 2 and PC without pre-order requirements, offering a taste of Warzone’s next Resurgence map and two Ground War maps, alongside all the content from the first weekend. However, despite the new additions and free accessibility, player numbers on Steam haven’t seen a significant boost. The peak concurrent player count of 115,145 achieved during the first weekend remains unchallenged.
Infinity Ward has been actively addressing player feedback throughout the beta, tweaking movement speed, reducing damage across all weapons, and adjusting spawn locations to reduce chaos. These changes have resulted in a noticeably different gameplay experience compared to the first weekend. While some players may prefer the original feel, these adjustments offer enough incentive for both disgruntled and satisfied players to experience the differences firsthand.
