Get ready to indulge your inner child (and satisfy your sweet tooth) because Krispy Kreme is teaming up with Nintendo for a limited-time Pokémon doughnut collection that’s almost too cute to eat. Almost.
Catch ‘Em All… and Devour Them!
Starting August 18th, you can experience the world of Pokémon in a whole new way: through delicious pastries. The Krispy Kreme Pokémon Doughnut Collection features five iconic characters transformed into delectable treats. Imagine sinking your teeth into a Pikachu doughnut filled with tangy lemon crème and drizzled with “electrifying” icing, complete with a miniature Pikachu chocolate piece! Or perhaps you’re more of a Charmander fan? Then the chocolate and toasted marshmallow-filled doughnut is calling your name.
Of course, no Pokémon collection would be complete without a nod to the classics. You can also enjoy original glazed doughnuts reimagined as Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and even a Poke Ball design. A special-edition dozen of these adorable treats will retail for around $21 in the US.
More Than Just Doughnuts: Pokémon Perks!
The collaboration doesn’t stop at just doughnuts. Krispy Kreme is also offering some sweet perks for dedicated fans. On August 22nd, anyone who rocks their best Pokémon attire to a participating location will receive a free original glazed doughnut. Plus, there are five different collectible Pokémon cups available, each containing ten golden “glazed dots.”
For those who can’t wait to get their hands on these treats, pre-ordering is now available through Krispy Kreme’s website. The Pokémon cups are priced around $8 each, or you can bundle one with the dozen doughnut collection for approximately $29. While it doesn’t offer significant savings, it does guarantee you get your hands on a collectible cup.
A Year of Pokémon Treats
This isn’t the first Pokémon-themed food item to hit shelves this year. Target has been offering Pokemon Pop-Tarts for some time now, bringing back a nostalgic treat from 2000. And let’s not forget that the original anime series strongly hinted that people ate Pokemon, adding another layer of meta-humor to this collaboration.
