The saga surrounding Wonder Woman 3 has been a rollercoaster, and now Gal Gadot is finally opening up about the behind-the-scenes chaos. In a recent interview, the actress addressed the confusing series of events that led to the project’s ultimate demise, offering some surprising insights into her interactions with new DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
A Tumultuous Journey for Wonder Woman
The story of Wonder Woman 3 is a tangled web of greenlights, cancellations, and leadership changes. Gadot’s return as Diana Prince was initially planned, but the project faced numerous hurdles before being officially shelved in the early 2020s. The arrival of Gunn and Safran marked a significant shift in DC Studios’ direction, ultimately leading to the cancellation of Patty Jenkins’ vision for the third installment.
During an interview with “Happy, Sad, Confused,” Gadot confirmed that Gunn and Safran initially assured her that Wonder Woman 3 was still happening. This contradicted earlier reports suggesting that the new leadership team had no plans for a sequel directed by Jenkins. The conflicting information created a confusing situation, both internally and externally.
“No, they told me the opposite,” Gadot explained when asked about the circumstances surrounding the cancellation. “They were like, ‘We’re going to develop it with you.’” She also acknowledged the broader context of changes happening across the DC film universe, often referred to as the DC Extended Universe (DCEU).
The actress specifically referenced the situation involving Henry Cavill, who had publicly announced his return as Superman before Gunn and Safran ultimately decided to go in a different direction. “The Henry situation was not handled elegantly, to say the least,” Gadot stated.
Moving Forward with Grace
Despite the turbulent events, Gadot expressed understanding and acceptance of the decisions made by Gunn and Safran. “Same with Patty – was not handled elegantly. I feel like, you know, we’re all adults and it’s all good, and it’s not even about them.” She emphasized that she is grateful for the opportunity to have portrayed Wonder Woman and wishes the best for whoever takes on the role in the future.
However, Gadot also indicated that she likely won’t reprise her role as Wonder Woman. “For me to go and do, for example, another Wonder Woman, I’m not sure I would at this point in my life with four children and different schools, and all of that. To check out all of them for such a long period of time… It doesn’t work with my life anymore at this point.”
While Wonder Woman 3 is off the table for now, fans can look forward to other projects emerging from the new DCU. Upcoming films include Clayface and Man of Tomorrow.
