The gaming community has been buzzing with anticipation for the potential release of Forza Horizon 6 on PlayStation 5. However, recent reports suggest that this highly anticipated port might not be hitting shelves as soon as we hoped.
A Quiet Storm at Xbox
For months, whispers have circulated about a PS5 version of Forza Horizon 6. The initial excitement was palpable, fueled by the prospect of experiencing Playground Games’ acclaimed open-world racing title on Sony’s platform. However, Tom Warren of The Verge recently dampened spirits, stating he “isn’t expecting to see Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in 2026.” This statement, coupled with IGN’s confirmation that their sources corroborate this information, has left many wondering about the future of this project.
The timing of this news is particularly noteworthy. Since the initial announcement, Xbox has undergone significant internal restructuring following the appointment of Asha Sharma as CEO in February. While she has since clarified her stance on multi-platform releases and exclusives, it’s evident that Xbox is currently prioritizing its console strategy and reinforcing its commitment to exclusive titles.
This shift in focus is further exemplified by recent announcements regarding other high-profile games. In June, Xbox confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day would be an Xbox console exclusive, despite leaked promotional material suggesting a PS5 release was planned. Similarly, Clockwork Revolution will not see the light of day on Sony’s platform. While these decisions reflect Xbox’s current strategy, they also raise questions about the fate of previously announced multi-platform releases like Forza Horizon 6.
A Glimmer of Hope?
Despite the recent developments, it’s important to remember that Xbox has a history of honoring its commitments. Halo: Campaign Evolved was indeed released on PS5 as planned, and the highly anticipated Fable reboot, initially announced for simultaneous release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X, remains on track for its February 23rd, 2027 launch.
Based on this precedent, it’s unlikely that Forza Horizon 6 has been completely canceled for PS5. It’s more plausible that Xbox may have strategically delayed the release to further emphasize its commitment to Xbox exclusivity for a longer period. Given the immense success of previous Forza Horizon titles, with the last installment selling over 5 million copies on PS5, Microsoft likely isn’t rushing to release the PS5 version.
Fable: A Glimpse into Playground Games’ Future
While we await further news regarding Forza Horizon 6, let’s turn our attention to another highly anticipated title from Playground Games: Fable. The game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
During a Q&A session at Gamescom 2026, associate game director Will Kennedy provided insights into the game’s length. He stated that the main story campaign would take approximately 15-20 hours to complete, with a similar amount of side content and open-world exploration available. “We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay,” Kennedy told Polygon. “And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want.”
When someone suggested that Fable wasn’t a “huge game,” another associate game director, Craig Littler, added: “As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that’s what you want to do”. This comment highlights the depth and replayability that Playground Games is aiming for with Fable.
Chris T. had a chance to preview Fable earlier this year, describing it as “fantastic” despite some caveats. He praised Playground Games’ commitment to capturing the essence of the original Fable games, noting its “silly, crass, British, beautiful, systemic, and maybe a little overambitious” qualities. This first look offered a glimpse into the ambitious scope of the reboot, with promises of 1,000 unique, romanceable NPCs, each with reactive personalities.
Fable launches on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X on February 27th, 2027. While we eagerly await more information about Forza Horizon 6, Fable offers a tantalizing preview of what Playground Games is capable of, and a reminder that exciting gaming experiences are always just around the corner.
