For the first time in its history, Fortnite is bringing the animatronic terror of Five Nights at Freddy’s into its Battle Royale world. Epic Games officially unveiled the long-rumored crossover on September 27 and confirmed that the collaboration will launch with the start of Fortnitemares, the game’s annual Halloween event, on Thursday, October 1.
Fortnitemares has become one of the most anticipated recurring events in gaming, drawing players back each October with horror-themed crossovers, spooky makeovers to familiar Battle Royale locations, and limited-time items such as the Pumpkin Launcher and in-game candy. This year’s edition is shaping up to be its creepiest yet, headlined by the debut of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria as a new point of interest and the introduction of the franchise’s most iconic characters.
The announcement trailer revealed Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria as a new point of interest, along with Freddy, Chica, Bonnie, and Foxy. These characters will roam the pizzeria, and players must keep a watchful eye on them to avoid being eliminated. Players can also take over the animatronics’ bodies by sneaking up behind them, adding a new layer of stealth-based gameplay to the Battle Royale experience.
A Fan-Favorite Crossover Finally Happens
Five Nights at Freddy’s, the survival horror franchise in which players must endure a night shift at a pizzeria patrolled by blood-hungry animatronics, became an internet sensation that gathered thousands of players and racked up millions of views from content creators worldwide. Given Fortnite’s cartoonish designs and goofy-slash-creepy characters such as Cuddle Team Leader and Megg, many fans have long believed the animatronics would be a natural fit for Battle Royale, and the demand for the collaboration has built over years.
That patience appears to be paying off. The collaboration was already highly anticipated, but it seems to have surpassed expectations, currently standing as Fortnite’s most liked post of all time on X. Within an hour of being posted, the announcement reached 100,000 likes, and it has continued to attract even more attention since.

Many of the FNAF characters are expected to become available as skins in the Item Shop, though fans are also hoping the collaboration extends beyond Battle Royale. Community members have expressed a strong desire for an official Five Nights at Freddy’s map in creator-made maps in Fortnite, a request that has circulated for years as fans recreated the franchise’s tension in custom modes.
The Fortnitemares update will serve as the third update in Chapter 7 Season 4, with downtime expected to begin at 4 AM ET. Leaks are anticipated to start flowing a few minutes after the servers go offline, and once the servers return, players will be able to jump back into Fortnite and begin the spooky season celebrations.
