This isn’t just a simple tie-in; it’s a full-blown integration that promises to inject some serious Battle Royale action into your theme park experience.
Smugglers Run Gets a Fortnite Makeover
As revealed at Disney’s D23 event this weekend, the Smugglers Run ride at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World is getting a Fortnite makeover. For those unfamiliar, Smugglers Run puts you in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon with five other players, working together to complete missions for the notorious pirate, Hondo. Now, successfully completing those missions will unlock exclusive content within Fortnite.
To complement this real-world experience, Fortnite is introducing a brand-new island called “Smugglers Gambit,” set around Mersa Veta Station on the planet Ord Ryla. The description promises a co-op adventure where players team up to tackle missions, battle pirates and Imperial remnants, encounter dangerous wildlife, unlock new gear, and build their reputation across the Outer Rim. And true to Hondo’s character, expect plenty of opportunities for things to go hilariously right… or spectacularly wrong!
To participate, players need to link their Epic Games and MyDisney accounts. This exciting integration launched on Sunday, August 16th, at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. One of the initial rewards is the “Forsworn Trooper Outfit,” a stylish addition to your Fortnite wardrobe.
Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro, a self-proclaimed video game enthusiast, has been instrumental in driving this collaboration with Epic Games. His vision extends beyond this initial partnership, hinting at future possibilities like purchasing Disney Cruise Line tickets directly within Fortnite or even watching full-length Disney movies within the game itself!
Furthermore, rumors suggest that Disney is also working on an Arc Raiders-style game specifically designed to be released and played within Fortnite. This could potentially open up a whole new dimension of interactive experiences for Disney fans.
