Delve into the Cosmere: A Tabletop Journey Through Brandon Sanderson’s Worlds
Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere universe has captivated readers for over two decades, starting with Elantris and expanding to encompass a vast tapestry of interconnected worlds. With over 20 novels penned, and ambitious film and television adaptations on the horizon for Mistborn and Stormlight Archive, the allure of the Cosmere continues to grow. For those eager to experience these fantastical realms beyond the page, a growing selection of tabletop games offers immersive adventures.
Call to Adventure: The Stormlight Archive
Built on Brotherwise Games’ acclaimed “Call to Adventure” system, Call to Adventure: The Stormlight Archive invites players to craft compelling character narratives. This engine-building game challenges you to draft cards that shape your hero’s history, motivations, and destiny, all while balancing morality. Through three rounds, you’re tasked with creating the most epic and interesting character possible, culminating in a personal hero’s journey where points are awarded for an awesome backstory. Beyond being a solid game, Call to Adventure: The Stormlight Archive is a fantastic exercise in character development.
The Cosmere RPG
For those seeking a more immersive roleplaying experience, the Cosmere RPG provides the tools to live out your dreams on Roshar. Whether you aspire to become a Knight Radiant, embrace the path of a Singer, or simply survive as a soldier, this system empowers you to create unique characters and weave compelling stories with friends. The driving force behind the Cosmere RPG lies in the character’s motivations and the collaborative narrative crafted by the group. Brotherwise Games is expanding this world with upcoming Mistborn books, allowing players to craft their own Allomancers and embark on adventures set in both the first and second eras of the series!
Mistborn: The Deckbuilding Game
Immerse yourself in the world of Mistborn with this deckbuilding game, designed for 1-4 players. Taking on the roles of beloved characters like Vin and Kelsier, you’ll build your decks by drafting cards while learning to “burn” metals – the signature magic of Scadriel. The goal is to become powerful enough to complete missions and overcome opponents, or even cooperate to defeat the Lord Ruler in an optional game mode. With stunning artwork and engaging deckbuilding mechanics, this game is a must-have for Mistborn fans, and an upcoming expansion will add new characters, powers, and moments from The Well of Ascension!
Shards of Creation
The lightest of the main Cosmere games from Brotherwise, Shards of Creation is a trick-taking card game where the Shard of Adonalsium that’s picked can greatly change how you play. Each of the Shards included in the base game: Autonomy, Cultivation, Devotion, Dominion, Honor, Odium, Preservation and Ruin feature unique powers that can both help or hurt you as you form sets of suits for end game scoring. Featuring canonical depictions of the vessels of the Shards (up to a point, anyway), some of which first appearing in Shards of Creation, make this a great option for both fans of the Cosmere but also folks who just enjoy a good trick-taking game to bust out when they have a little time on their hands.
House War
Prior to Brotherwise Games securing their partnership with Sanderson, Crafty Games ventured into adapting the Mistborn series for the tabletop. House War is a resource management game where players assume the roles of factions within the Empire, striving to maintain order by solving issues and earning favor. While less focused on burning metals and navigating the mists, House War offers a unique twist: the player with either the lowest or highest score could potentially win! With options for both shorter (60-90 minute) and longer (2-3 hour) games, this title provides flexibility for any gaming session.
The Cosmere Tabletop Adventure System
The first TTRPG set in the world of the Cosmere, released back in summer of 2012, this tabletop adventure system lets players build Nobels, Skaa, Terrismen and even Kandra in the world of Scadrial to live out their stories during the first era of the Mistborn saga. Developed by Crafty Games, this d6 based system is far more narrative-driven where factors like Destiny and Tragedy factor into character creation. There are a host of expansions and additional books that were released for MDA including Terris: Wrought of Copper that focuses on the Terris people and Feruchemists, Alloy of Law, Skaa: Tin & Ash, Alloy of Law: Masks of the past, and Nobels: The Golden Mandate.
With a wealth of options available and more exciting releases on the horizon, Brotherwise Games is poised to keep Cosmere fans engaged for years to come. Don’t miss out on these incredible tabletop adventures!
