There is an important caveat attached to these figures. Arc Raiders launched a free trial alongside Frozen Trail, meaning some of the surge in players are new users who may never purchase a copy of the game.
Frozen Trail is described as a massive update touching almost every element of the game. It primarily adds Pendola Pass, the largest new map yet, along with several new Arc enemy units. Other additions include new weapons, a player home called The Outpost, and a complete revamp of the skill tree.
The update also establishes a new weapon meta intended to serve PvE and PvP players separately, revitalising many previously underused weapons and tools. This dual focus on both audiences is perhaps why studio Embark moved to officially test a dedicated PvE mode.
The free trial ends today, so it’ll be interesting to see whether the PvE test is enough to bring players back and keep the numbers high. A dedicated PvE mode has been one of Arc Raiders’ most requested features, though, so we could see another surge.
