Mondo has unveiled an official Street Fighter II poster, offering a striking alternative to the promotional art for the upcoming Capcom film adaptation. According to GameSpot’s exclusive reveal, the new print captures one of the fighting game franchise’s most iconic moments: the legendary rivalry between Ryu and Sagat.

The piece was designed by artist and painter Gian Galang, who depicted the Shoryuken clash between the two fighters “exploding with lightning, splitting the composition in two.” Rather than featuring a gallery of floating heads, the poster focuses on a single image—Sagat’s head being punched off his shoulders.

“Street Fighter 2 was the first video game I ever owned, and it reinforced the bond between art and martial arts that I loved as a kid and has defined my career as an adult,” Galang said. “I did my best to create an image worthy of the Street Fighter legacy.”

Mondo has reprinted Galang’s unique, multi-layered composition as a nine-color screenprint on high-quality paper. The poster goes on sale starting October 16 at 9 AM PT and is priced at $90.

The rivalry depicted runs deep in Street Fighter lore. In the original continuity, Ryu’s Shoryuken left Sagat with his iconic chest scar, driving the Thai fighter to join Shadaloo for a rematch. Street Fighter Alpha later retconned this event, showing Sagat delivering a one-sided beatdown before extending sportsmanship—only for Ryu’s dark side, the Satsui no Hado, to manifest and leave Sagat scarred instead. The two have since developed mutual respect.

The film adaptation of Street Fighter, directed by Bad Trip director Kitao Sakurai, is set for release on October 16. It features a large cast including Easter eggs and a version of Guile’s theme music. The movie arrives amid renewed attention for the franchise; developers recently noted that the series was reportedly on life support about 10 years ago.
