Hold onto your lightsabers and web-shooters, folks! The moment we’re all (probably) been waiting for has finally arrived. After years of speculation and fan petitions, Disney is officially bringing the Marvel Universe and the Star Wars galaxy together in a brand new comic book series: “Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles.” Get ready for some serious interdimensional team-ups!
A New Hope… For Crossovers?
This isn’t just a random mashup; it’s a carefully planned event designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. The series aims to bridge the gap between contemporary Marvel heroes and the iconic characters from that original trilogy. And, crucially, this crossover will be firmly rooted in Marvel’s main Earth-616 continuity, meaning it’s officially part of Marvel canon. How they plan to reconcile Star Wars existing as a movie franchise within the Marvel Universe remains to be seen, but we’re already bracing for some mind-bending explanations.
“Back in the early ’80s, I had a subscription to Marvel’s Star Wars comics,” explains writer Kevin Smith in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “And as fun as it was to follow the continuing adventures of Luke, Leia, and Han, I always wished that Spider-Man or Doctor Doom could cross over into their cinematic saga. So when the opportunity arose to actually tell that story, nobody had to Force my hand! I’m ecstatic to be writing Hope Assembles for the 50th anniversary of Star Wars!”
Michael Siglain, creative director at Lucasfilm Publishing, added, “With Hope Assembles, Kevin Smith has written a true love letter to Star Wars, to Marvel, and to comics in general. And combined with David Marquez’s incredible art, we’ll see the heroes and villains of Star Wars team up and battle with the heroes and villains of Earth-616. Hope Assembles is exciting, unpredictable, and heartfelt. In short, it’s comics at its best, and we can’t wait for readers to experience both franchises as never before.”
