Hey deckbuilding enthusiasts! Slay the Spire 2 has been steadily evolving since its early access launch in March. While we’re all eager for constant updates, Mega Crit is strategically adjusting their release schedule to deliver truly impactful content. Get ready for new modes, a fresh Act 2 experience, and a brand-new character – complete with a mysteriously bandaged foot!
The Slow Burn: Why Less Can Be More
Remember when Slay the Spire 2 updates were promised weekly? Back in May, Mega Crit announced a shift to bi-weekly releases. Now, as detailed in their August newsletter, they’re further refining this approach. This isn’t about abandoning players; it’s about prioritizing quality over quantity. As Mega Crit explains in a Steam blog post, “Our bi-weekly update cadence on the beta branch has allowed us to cross quite a few features and content off of our to-do list. It also allows us to be more dynamic and experimental when introducing changes.” However, delivering content piecemeal makes it harder to focus on developing those bigger, game-changing additions that players crave.
So, what’s coming? Expect experimental game modes (those mentioned back in April), a completely new take on Act 2, and a brand-new character. While details are scarce, the glimpse of a bandaged foot has already sparked intense speculation within the community!
What to Expect (and What Not To): A Peek Behind the Curtain
The Q&A section of the newsletter shed some light on future plans – and clarified what won’t be happening. Don’t expect Ascension 20; Mega Crit believes Ascension 10 represents “close to the highest difficulty we’ll have for the game.” Grinding through Ascension 20 with more characters would simply be too demanding. Also, enchantments won’t be stackable, as the team wants to maintain a focus on strategic deckbuilding rather than overwhelming card synergy. And yes, before you ask, Mega Crit isn’t planning to give Defect a gun that looks like real-world firearms.
While the slower update pace might test our patience, remember that it’s all in service of delivering a richer and more rewarding Slay the Spire 2 experience. Stay tuned for more news and prepare to welcome the new content when it arrives!
