Hold onto your helmets, Dragonborn! In a move that’s both unexpected and hilarious, IKEA is teaming up with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, sending fans into a frenzy of jokes about furniture arriving before the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls VI.
A Frosty Collaboration
On September 2nd, the official IKEA accounts for Ireland and the United Kingdom dropped a promotional video on Instagram. The video showcased a chaotic pile of familiar Skyrim memorabilia – Nord helmets, swords, books, even wheels of cheese – haphazardly tossed onto a snowy mountainside. But nestled amongst these iconic items were some decidedly modern additions: a rune-inscribed Allen wrench and a sleek white Kallax 4×2 shelf.
Coming to Skyrim (Eventually)
The video then flashed a date: September 9, 2026, accompanied by the message, “Coming to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.” The post’s caption echoed this sentiment: “A Creation coming to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.”
While the exact nature of this collaboration remains shrouded in mystery, fans are already speculating wildly. Will players be able to decorate their homes with Kallax shelves? Can they wield the magic Allen wrench as a weapon (please say yes!)? Or is IKEA planning on releasing furniture inspired by Skyrim?
The prevailing sentiment among fans is one of amusement, tinged with impatience for The Elder Scrolls VI. “New Elder Scrolls? No. New Skyrim furniture that will break down before the new Elder Scrolls comes out? Yes,” one user wrote on X.
IKEA’s Gamer Focus
This collaboration isn’t entirely out of left field. IKEA has been steadily making inroads into the gaming market, recently unveiling a furniture line specifically designed for gamers. Titled The Yxstaby Collection, this line debuted at Gamescom and features pieces inspired by the Xbox controller, including a TV stand, side table, “thumbstick” stool, D-pad cushion, lounge chair, and more.
At Gamescom, IGN spoke with Carl Ledbetter, Xbox’s Head of Design, who revealed the inspiration behind this collaboration. “I’ve spent all my time [at Xbox] looking at input, controllers, the console, how things fit into the home. [That] matters when you design a console, [the] horizontal and vertical position. [So] this goes back years. The philosophy that we share for designing products at Xbox and at Ikea are nearly identical. So it was like a love connection,” he explained.
The Wait Continues
For now, fans will have to content themselves with jokes and speculation while eagerly awaiting more news on The Elder Scrolls VI. The game recently received a significant update after Xbox CEO Asha Sharma publicly declared that she saw an early playthrough in August, describing the scale and grandeur as “incredible” and the story as “even greater.”
