Navigating Morality: A Guide to The Blood of Dawnwalker's "In the Name of the Father" Quest

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, choices matter, and few decisions carry as much weight as those presented in the “In the Name of the Father” quest. This walkthrough will guide you through this pivotal moment, exploring both paths: siding with the enigmatic Father Florin or forging your own way.

Understanding Father Florin

The first encounter with Father Florin occurs during a visit to the Svartrau Cathedral (located on the east side of Svartrau City). He’s in the midst of a baptism, and initiating conversation opens a series of choices. Regardless of your initial responses, agreeing to confess to him is crucial for progressing this questline.

The Confession and the Choice

During the confession, you must truthfully list all your sins, including wrath, envy, and gluttony. Responding with “tell me more” unlocks further dialogue and officially begins the “In the Name of the Father” quest. The next step involves visiting Father Florin’s house on the west side of Svartrau City.

You have two primary options for initiating this part of the quest:

  • The Invitation: Follow the road north of the West Gate to find the front door, where a beggar will invite you inside.
  • The Forceful Entry: If you prefer a more direct approach, or if you missed the cathedral visit, you can still start “In the Name of the Father” by heading directly to Father Florin’s hideout. Use focus mode to locate the front door and deal with the beggars guarding it.

Siding with Father Florin: The Path of Alliance

Once inside, you can freely explore the house, uncovering details about Father Florin’s activities. Eventually, enter the southern room on the first floor and drop down through the hole to access the tunnels below. Here, you’ll find Father Florin giving a sermon.

Regardless of how you arrived, Father Florin will ask for your help. You have three options:

  • Agree to side with Father Florin: He’s seeking individuals to undergo an ancient trial and advises preparation. Speaking with him again grants the ancient key, unlocking the path to the ruins.
  • Refuse to side with Father Florin: While disappointed, he allows you to leave. You can still obtain the ancient key from the barrel next to the door leading to the ancient ruins. Alternatively, you can later change your mind and offer your assistance.
  • Attack Father Florin: Choosing the sword icon initiates an attack, resulting in Coen stabbing Father Florin. This triggers a fight against all present beggars. Looting Father Florin’s body yields the ancient key.

Remember that these are only short-term consequences. Forming an alliance with Father Florin unlocks significant advantages later in the game.

The Ancient Trial and its Rewards

Using the ancient key, enter the northern door leading to the ancient ruins and begin your trial. This marks the end of “In the Name of the Father” and the beginning of “A Hero’s End.” The trial is challenging, so reaching at least level 15 is recommended. Utilize the shrine in the same room to upgrade abilities and adjust the time of day.

Defeat the undead enemies within the ruins. After defeating the Ancient Guardian in the first circular room, proceed left to discover what happened to Father Florin’s previous “heroes.” Pass through the door with the red glow and defeat Rigoz, The Betrayed Hero, a standard wraith fight. Opening the coffin at the end of the room yields the Ancient Hero’s Armour, along with a golden brooch and the recipe for Potent Balm of Fortitude.

Exit through the gap in the wall and loot the corpse for a key. Ascend to find a shortcut back to Father Florin. If you initially refused assistance but now wish to form an alliance, this is your opportunity.

The Alliance Advantage: A Shortcut to Greifberg Castle

Forming an alliance with Father Florin provides a crucial advantage: a shortcut directly into Greifberg Castle. This bypasses several tough enemies guarding the castle’s front door, allowing you to proceed almost straight into the main building. This is essential for initiating “A Lone Wolf’s Hunt,” the quest leading to the final confrontation with Brencis.

If you choose not to promise assistance to Father Florin, you won’t receive this shortcut. However, alternative paths and allies exist for entering Greifberg Castle.
