World of Warcraft: Forever received a significant beta update late yesterday, introducing major gameplay changes including an increased level cap and a brand-new dungeon. The patch raised the maximum character level from 20 to 30, expanded playable zones, unlocked three new dungeons for exploration, restored a beloved fan-favorite questline, and adjusted experience point rewards across multiple systems.

The update arrives as Blizzard continues refining the nostalgic re-release ahead of its official launch. As with most beta patches, this release addressed numerous bugs, recalibrated several percentages, attempted to balance class mechanics, and introduced a handful of new quirks along the way. However, beyond routine maintenance, it delivered some substantial shifts to the actual gameplay that make returning to the beta worthwhile for players who had stepped away.

The Level Cap Rises to 30

Until now, players could only reach a maximum of level 20 in the WoW: Forever beta. That cap has now been raised to 30, allowing players to safely level and quest through significantly more zones than before. The increase also unlocks access to several new dungeons that were previously gated behind higher requirements.

This expansion means three of the promised nine new dungeons are now explorable. Alongside Excavation Site: Wetlands, Razorfen Downs (level 25+) and Uldaman (level 30+) have opened up, joining the existing roster of lower-level content. The Hall of Thanes (level 13+) and Ruins of Lordaeron (level 15+) were already available to players.

A New Dungeon Unlocks in the Wetlands

Excavation Site: Wetlands is a brand-new dungeon added to WoW: Forever, intended for players at level 26 and above. It is located in the south central area of the Wetlands, perched atop a hill that was previously inaccessible. A new road now leads directly to the summit, granting players access to this fresh challenge.

The addition brings the total number of explorable dungeons from the promised nine into view, giving veterans and newcomers alike more classic content to revisit. Blizzard has not yet confirmed whether additional dungeons will unlock in subsequent beta phases or arrive with the final launch.

A Beloved Questline Returns

The well-known Mulgore questline “Kyle’s Gone Missing!” has been added back into WoW: Forever, delighting long-time players who remember its origins. The quest was originally introduced to the game as part of a Make-A-Wish visit to Blizzard HQ by Ezra Chatterton in 2007.

Chatterton helped design the quest and provided the voice of the tauren who asks passersby, “Can you help me find my dog?” While Chatterton has sadly passed away in the years since, his creation continues to live on in both retail WoW and now in Forever. The emotional resonance of this addition has resonated deeply with the community.

Dungeon Quest XP Gets Nerfed

In a more controversial move, Blizzard reduced the experience rewards granted by dungeon quests. Developers addressed the change directly through their patch notes, acknowledging ongoing discussions about leveling speed within the beta.

“We appreciate the feedback on leveling speed as we continue ongoing discussions about the Beta. As part of those discussions, we’ve decided to reduce the amount of XP granted from dungeon quests with this release. Certain quest rewards have also been recalibrated.”

World of Warcraft: Forever Developers

Dungeon quests now reward 50% less extra experience beyond normal quest values, meaning leveling by burning through numerous dungeon quests will be considerably slower. Players have expressed mixed feelings about the decision.

Some community members are concerned that the change makes dungeons far less appealing given the effort required to assemble a group and travel to them. Others argue that players are simply impatient to reach the maximum level and need to slow down and enjoy the journey.

A Curious Hat Problem

Beyond mechanical changes, the patch notes revealed an amusing technical quirk involving character appearances. Developers noted a peculiar issue with several non-player characters throughout the world.

“Anduin Wrynn – and many other children – unintentionally have hats. We’re in the process of removing them, but they keep giggling and running away, so this is going to take a while.”

The lighthearted note has provided entertainment for the community as developers work through cosmetic glitches. Such quirks are an inherent part of game development, and fans have embraced the transparency surrounding them.

Looking Ahead

The true impact of these changes on player behavior will become clear as more people continue exploring the beta. Actual dungeon rewards may look similar or quite different in the final release, with Blizzard signaling that ongoing discussions about balance remain open.

Players interested in reviewing every adjustment can consult the full patch notes for complete details. As WoW: Forever approaches its official launch, these updates demonstrate Blizzard’s commitment to refining the experience based on community feedback before the game reaches a wider audience.
