A newly surfaced trove of approximately 192 gigabytes of files tied to Grand Theft Auto V has reignited speculation that Rockstar Games began developing, then abandoned, a substantial Liberty City downloadable content expansion while also containing some of the earliest known work related to its long-awaited sequel. The leak, which has been circulating across gaming communities in recent days, reportedly exposes cut dialogue, scrapped missions, unused assets and rough early maps for both titles.

The Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption maker has weathered a considerable amount of data leakage over the past few years, yet this latest batch appears to be among the most significant. According to online reports, fans have been combing through the accessible material and unearthing evidence of ambitious plans that never reached release, including several files pointing toward an expanded version of Liberty City.

An Enormous Library of Cut Content

The sheer scale of the leak has drawn attention well beyond typical curiosity about unfinished assets. Community members digging through the data say they have uncovered everything from discarded missions and unused character models to a rough early iteration of the map for GTA 6, alongside what appear to be detailed plans for a Liberty City DLC that never made it past development.

YouTuber TJGM contributed visual evidence by posting an outline of the supposed DLC map’s shoreline. The image suggested a playable area considerably larger than the version of New York City featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, hinting at how expansive those early ambitions may have been.

“This isn’t a screenshot included in the leak,” they tweeted after. “This is data viewed in CodeWalker and then screenshotted after. It also includes many other Rockstar tools, source code and other things that are legit and easily verifiable.”

Rumors of a GTA 6 Connection

With the iconic fictional East Coast city back in the public conversation, some observers have speculated that Rockstar may have shelved the Liberty City DLC for potential reuse in a possible GTA 6 expansion. No evidence has emerged to support this claim so far.

The renewed interest in Liberty City also coincides with rediscovery of what was reportedly a screenshot of the location rendered in GTA 5’s engine, allegedly found on a Rockstar artist’s portfolio more than a decade ago. Supporters cite it as proof that the expansion progressed fairly far before being cancelled.

A History of Abandoned Expansions

The leak arrives amid growing awareness of other Grand Theft Auto V content that never saw daylight. In recent years, Trevor Philips actor Steven Ogg revealed details about a proposed “James Bond Trevor” DLC in which the unpredictable character would have worked undercover for the government. Rockstar reportedly filmed some material for the side story before committing fully to GTA Online.

A former senior camera artist and digital cinematographer at the studio, Joseph Rubino, discussed the Agent Trevor project publicly a couple of years ago, offering insight into how those priorities shifted.

“We split our teams into two, so I stayed on GTA Online and then this DLC, which Steven Ogg was a very important part of, and then some of the team overlapped and went to Red Dead Redemption 2 early on. When GTA Online came out, it was so much of a cash cow and people were loving it so much that it was hard to make an argument that a standalone DLC would out-compete that… Looking back now I would say that you could probably do both, but that was a business decision that they made and I was a little upset about that.”

Some materials tied to the Agent Trevor project are reportedly included in this newest leak as well, though it remains unclear exactly how much of the content survives within the exposed files.

Looking Ahead

Rockstar Games has not publicly commented on the latest leak. As fans continue analyzing the material, interest is likely to persist around what these abandoned projects reveal about the studio’s development history and its evolving plans for future titles. No official release date or additional details have been announced regarding GTA 6.
