Movie retailer Zavvi has entered administration—a legal process similar to bankruptcy—and warned customers not to place new orders on its website.
Zavvi operated as an entertainment retailer in the UK during the late 2000s, a period when it shut down all of its physical stores. The brand survived through its website, which became well-respected among physical media collectors for its large collection of Blu-rays and 4K movies, including sought-after steelbooks.

Zavvi has announced that it is entering administration. As a result, the company will not be able to fulfill outstanding orders and preorders, and customers have been told to contact their banks to recover their money. Although the website remains active, Zavvi is warning customers not to make any new purchases.
Administration does not necessarily mean the end of Zavvi; it is a process that attempts to give companies a path back to sustainability. However, whether this will happen for the retailer remains to be seen. If the company cannot recover, it would represent another blow to physical media lovers.
The options for purchasing new Blu-rays and steelbooks have shrunk considerably over the past six years or so. Major retailers such as Target and Best Buy no longer sell films in stores, and enthusiast websites like Zavvi are now at risk of ceasing to exist.
