Xbox Tests New Feature To Deal All Of Those Annoying Updates

No gamer enjoys starting up a console only to be confronted by a looming update prompt. As patch sizes swell year after year, the frustration mounts. Xbox is now leveraging its Game Pass ecosystem to experiment with a novel solution.

Rather than endure a full download before launch, Xbox Insiders are getting early access to a feature that allows players to start a Game Pass title instantly via cloud streaming, provided the game supports it. According to a fresh announcement on Xbox Wire, users will also find a “Launch with Cloud Gaming” button on the game card during installation or updates, promising quicker playtime.

Manufacturers have previously offered solutions such as overnight background updates while the console rests, and the industry has long promised instant launch before a full install completes. Yet, these attempts have fallen short of dramatically reducing the everyday frustrations that modern gamers face.

Microsoft’s latest pre‑release for Xbox Insiders expands the Gamertag character limit to 15, brings Xbox 360 achievements into the Game Hub, and lets players add titles to their wishlists straight from the Game Card—no longer needing to navigate into the store. These refinements are part of a broader push to accelerate the overall console experience.
