Wolverine Gameplay Showcases Epic X‑Men Action

Kicking off its PlayStation State of Play gaming presentation today, Sony unveiled Marvel’s Wolverine as their lead showcase. Developed by Insomniac Games, this highly anticipated title was first announced in 2021, and finally, a release date has been set for the project. While being set in the same universe as Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, this experience promises to be “brutal” and “violent,” fittingly so for a game centered around the Marvel character of Wolverine. The studio assures an “emotionally charged original story” that sees Logan and other mutants struggling to survive in a hostile world.

“The situation is dire and help is limited. Mutants live in the shadows, fearful of those hunting them, while the rest of society remains oblivious to their existence,” explains the studio about the game’s setting. “The only ones potentially capable of protecting their own are Team X, a last-stand mutant task force facing its darkest hour, which Logan rejoins after leaving three years prior. For the mutants, the fight for survival is theirs alone.”

In the upcoming action title, players will harness Logan’s relentless combat prowess: by striking, parrying, and dispatching foes, he can absorb and even heal the damage he sustains. When the onslaught becomes overwhelming, he can tap into a primal fury that grants a decisive edge.

Marvel’s Wolverine launches on September 15, 2026 for PlayStation 5. Pre‑orders open later today, and those who secure a copy will unlock exclusive in‑game rewards—including the iconic brown suit, reflective claws, an additional ability point for character progression, and four PlayStation avatars. The standard edition is priced at $69.99, while the Digital Deluxe edition—offering extra in‑game perks—retails for $79.99. A physical special edition has yet to be announced.
