The announcement resolves months of speculation after reports of game stores began appearing online, suggesting that the Warhammer 40K preconstructed decks had quietly returned to inventory through standard order forms. IGN followed up on those reports and reached out directly for official confirmation, prompting the publisher’s first public acknowledgment that a reprint was indeed taking place.
A Long-Awaited Return from the Secondary Market
The four Commander decks marked Magic’s first preconstructed products to venture beyond its own in-universe offerings, and they were well received at launch. However, demand quickly outstripped supply, pushing the decks almost entirely onto the secondary market where they now command premium prices. Collectors looking to acquire a copy have been forced to pay costing hundreds of dollars at marketplace retailers such as TCGplayer — far above their original retail value.
“Yes, we can confirm that we did a small reprint of the Commander decks that will be available to distributors and stores soon,” a Wizards of the Coast spokesperson told IGN. “Fans and WPN retailers should check with their distributors for availability, as it may vary by region.”

The decks each center on a distinct faction from Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 miniature wargame universe. Ruinous Powers channels the forces of Chaos, Tyranid Swarm leans into the xenomorph-like Tyranids, Necron Dynasty is a mono-black deck built around the mysterious undead machines, and Forces of the Imperium focuses on the Imperial war machine.
What This Means for Collectors
The reprint arrives well after the decks’ initial launch, when Magic’s head designer Mark Rosewater said in a blog post, that there were “no current plans to make in-universe Magic versions of the new cards” — though he noted the studio retained the capability to do so on a card-by-card basis. That means the original Warhammer 40K cards may never receive official in-universe artwork or names, but the mere act of reprinting should make all four decks considerably easier for collectors to obtain.
While Wizards described the run as “small,” adding even a modest number of additional copies to an already starved market could help temper resale prices. The publisher did not confirm whether the all-foil Collector’s Edition versions would also be reprinted, and it offered no word on pricing for the new stock, which originally carried a $59.99 MSRP.

Looking Ahead
The reprint lands at a particularly busy moment for the Warhammer 40,000 franchise as a whole. Dawn of War IV is set to bring the beloved RTS series back this December, while Total War: Warhammer 40K is also slated for release next year. Meanwhile, Henry Cavill’s ambitious Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe is also moving forward.
