Windows 11 finally climbs over 70% of all users on Steam

Valve has just unveiled the June 2026 edition of its Steam Hardware & Software Survey, and the data confirms that the trajectory observed over the last several months is still in motion.

Windows 11 continues to erode the remaining share of Windows 10, now commanding 70.44% of the Steam user base—a 0.68‑point rise from May. Windows 10, meanwhile, has slipped to 23.56%, a 0.43‑point decline, while the venerable Windows 7 stubbornly holds 0.07% of the market.

Across the board, Windows dominates Steam’s ecosystem, representing 94.10% of all users. macOS has gained traction, climbing to 2.21%, whereas Linux has seen a modest drop to 3.69%. Among Linux distributions, SteamOS Holo remains the most popular at 0.84%, narrowly ahead of CachyOS.

Hardware trends have largely held steady. Forty‑one point five seven percent of systems are equipped with 16 GB of RAM, and a resolution of 1920 × 1080 remains the preferred choice for just over half of all users, with 2560 × 1440 steadily gaining ground behind it.

In a notable shift within the GPU landscape, the RTX 4060 Laptop GPU has eclipsed the RTX 3060 to become the most frequently installed card this month, capturing 3.81% of the market share compared to the 3.73% held by its predecessor. Amid a broader hardware crunch, the majority of users still rely on 8 GB of VRAM, yet the 16 GB variant is steadily gaining traction, now representing 24.50% of installations—a rise of 0.45 percentage points from the previous month.

The CPU arena remains fiercely contested, with Intel maintaining a 54.01% share against AMD’s 45.99%. Over the past eighteen months, the gap has steadily narrowed; in January 2025, Intel commanded 68.8% of the market, indicating that AMD has clawed back nearly fourteen percentage points.
