Under the present system, a player can earn a maximum of 50 PokéCoins each day by having their Pokémon stationed in a gym. Coins accrue at a rate of one per ten minutes of guard duty, so a Pokémon must remain defending for a full 8 hours 20 minutes to unlock the entire daily allotment.

Securing that full 8 hours 20 minutes can be challenging, especially when rival teams frequently challenge your Pokémon. Urban players, however, often have a dense network of gyms that boost their chances, whereas those in rural locales—where gym density is sparse—face a steep uphill battle to accumulate free coins.

PokéCoins grant players the ability to unlock fresh attire for their avatars, purchase extra Raid Passes that enable participation in the game’s multiplayer battles, or acquire items that boost Stardust earnings or experience gains. While the core gameplay remains accessible without them, these coins open up additional layers of engagement beyond daily limits.
