Ventoy Adds Windows 11 Update Support, Fixes Critical Boot Bug

Microsoft’s own Media Creation Tool remains the go‑to solution for crafting bootable USB drives, but a growing number of gamers and IT pros are turning to third‑party alternatives that offer extra flexibility—such as bypassing strict system checks or automating Microsoft account creation. Among the most popular of these is Ventoy, which just rolled out its latest update today after a flurry of revisions over the past few days.

The update cycle was a bit hectic: the initial release, version 1.1.13, was quickly retracted due to an unspecified error, prompting the corrected 1.1.14 to go live. Shortly thereafter, 1.1.15 was also released on very short notice, giving users a stable and feature‑rich tool in a matter of hours.

Ventoy is an open‑source utility that lets users create a single bootable USB drive and then simply drag and drop ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD, or EFI files onto it—no need to reformat each time. Supporting legacy BIOS, UEFI, Secure Boot, and a wide array of operating systems, it has become one of the most versatile tools in the bootable media category.

Microsoft has announced a critical update to its Secure Boot keys, a move prompted by the fact that the current certificates will reach their 15‑year lifespan—and consequently expire—in 2026. The company is rolling out the new 2023 certificates through the latest Windows 11 updates, a mandatory step that fortifies systems against sophisticated malware such as bootkits.

Ventoy itself has addressed a startup glitch that occurred when Secure Boot was disabled. Microsoft officially permits booting on Secure Boot‑capable machines even without the feature enabled, and the fix ensures that users can reliably launch their systems in either mode without compromising stability.

The latest update also includes a revised secure‑boot shim file designed to resolve the UEFI CA 2023 issue. Because the new certificate authority is in effect, users must enroll the updated key during their first boot, ensuring that the system’s firmware trust chain remains intact.
